82 Street FoodThere are a lot of hidden gems throughout this area. Foreigners are often so focused on finding property along Sukhumvit and Silom that they miss out on some great neighborhoods with excellent eateries, Thai prices, and super easy access to the rest of the city and elsewhere. The entire Victory Monument and north area comes well recommended.

83 Vila RatchatewiVictory Monument is one of the biggest transport hubs in Bangkok. Minivans can be found here to just about any place within 3 hours of Bangkok, from Pattaya to Hua Hin to Kanchanaburi. Very convenient, and removes the need to make the long haul to the Southern Bus Station. Addtionally, nearby Soi Rang Nam is home to some of the best restaurants and bars in Bangkok, often called the Thai equivalent of Khao San Road, vibrant and fun, with cinema complex and shopping located in the Century Park Mall at the head of the soi.

84 Rock BarNearby Ari has become a designer neighborhood, with fashionable properties at reasonable prices, and a lively mix of fusion restaurants, bohemian cafes, and excellent choices on all fronts. At the southern end of the area, Phaya Thai now is the starting point for the newly opened airport link, making travel to Suvarnabhumi fast and easy.

  • Tida Isaan: long established and tasty Isaan restaurant, actually just one of many on Soi Rang Nam. The faithful come here for their som tam and laap mu pork salad fixes. Prices are extremely reasonable and the streetside location is perfect.  Tida Isaan, 1/2-5 Soi Rangnam, 02 2472234

This is a very well connected area. BTS stations include Ratchathewi, Phaya Thai, Victory Monument, Sanam Pao, and Ari. The Airport Link starts from Phaya Thai and whisks you to Suvarnabhumi in 23 minutes. There is also commuter boat service on the Klong Saem Sab Canal from the pier at Ratchathewi. Additionally, Victory Monument has vans to every place in the region.
